Vols Start 4-0, Commodores Fail To Cover Versus Alabama

Tennessee claims Top 10 college football ranking with quality victory over Florida.

The Tennessee Volunteers earned their second victory of the season against a Top 25 ranked opponent on Saturday in a 38-33 win over the Florida Gators at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville.

With the win, Tennessee now moves to 4 wins and 0 losses on the season and possesses an upcoming SEC “strength of schedule” gauntlet that includes contests against three Top 10 ranked teams: the #2 Alabama Crimson Tide (October 15th), the #7 Kentucky Wildcats (October 29th), and the #1 Georgia Bulldogs (November 5th).

Tennessee online sports bettors who wagered on the “Over” at DraftKings Sportsbook TN easily covered thanks to the 71 total points that were scored Saturday.

Now ranked #8 in the country, the Volunteers represent one of four SEC teams that currently enjoy a Top 10 standing in the latest Associated Press College Football Poll.

Fellow SEC rival #20 Arkansas fell to the #17 Texas A&M Aggies on Saturday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. Dallas Cowboys owner and Razorback alumnus Jerry Jones was in attendance to watch his alma mater compete in the SEC matchup.

Vanderbilt Fails To Cover Massive Underdog Spread Against Crimson Tide

Going into Tuscaloosa on Saturday, the Vanderbilt Commodores massive +40.5 underdog point spread gave local sports bettors and fans something to contemplate before kickoff.

But in the end, Vandy was nowhere near as competitive as their six-touchdown handicap would have suggested, and were summarily thrashed 55-3 at the hands of Alabama (who scored 48 unanswered points following a 1st Quarter field goal by the Commodores).

Both Vanderbilt and Tennessee have a “Bye Week” coming up before getting back into SEC action on October 8th (Vanderbilt vs. #14 Ole Miss and Tennessee at LSU).

Tennessee Titans Get First Win Of Season Vs. Raiders

The Tennessee Titans instantly regained their competitive standing within the NFL’s AFC South division on Sunday by holding off the Las Vegas Raiders 24-22 in Nashville.

Despite failing to convert a “4th & Inches” late in the game, running back Derrick Henry averaged over four yards per rush for the first time this year.

Las Vegas quarterback Derek Carr was able to bring his team back near the end of regulation, but the Titans denied the ensuing 2-pt conversion to improve their season record to 1 win and 2 losses.

After three weeks of regular season play, the AFC South division standings are as follows:

Jacksonville Jaguars: 2-1-0    Indianapolis Colts:  1-1-1

Tennessee Titans: 1-2-0      Houston Texans: 0-2-1

Tennessee will face the Indianapolis Colts on the road this coming Sunday afternoon, October 2nd.

A win for either team would mean an immediate elevation into first place within the AFC South if the underdog Jaguars come up short versus the Eagles, while the Texans will host the Los Angeles Chargers. Houston was the only AFC South team to lose on Sunday, September 25th.

Cardinals, Guardians Qualify For MLB Postseason

Major League Baseball is heading into October under a different playoff format in which two “Wild Card” teams from both the NL and AL will have an opportunity to compete for a world championship.

With less than ten regular season games remaining in the 2022 MLB campaign, the St. Louis Cardinals are poised to win the National League Central. One win against the Brewers this week and the Cardinals are automatically in the playoffs.

The Cleveland Guardians have already secured their claim to the American League Central division pennant and will enter the playoffs as the AL’s #3 seed.
