Memphis Grizzlies 2/1 Underdogs To Make Playoffs With .500 Record

The Memphis Grizzlies meet the Dallas Mavericks on Monday night in Texas, the first game between the two basketball squads this season.

For the Grizzlies, who are 13-13, it is an important game against the 13-15 Mavs. Oddsmakers in Tennessee are not high on the Grizzlies making the playoffs this season. They are currently the ninth seed in the Western Conference, while the Mavs are 10th.

FanDuel Sportsbook has the Grizzlies at +194 to make the playoffs, and -245 on them not making it. As for winning the NBA title, the odds are a long +24000.

For Monday’s game, the Grizzlies are +5 and +180, compared to -5 and -215 for the home team. The over/under for the game is 233 points.

Luka Doncic, the star for the Mavs, is coming off a 44-point game against the Portland Trail Blazers. Doncic was an early season MVP favorite, but he has slid to +1300 at FanDuel. LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakes is the favorite right now at +150.

Despite having a worse record, FanDuel is giving the Mavs a much greater chance at making the playoffs. They are -215 on “yes” and +172 on “no” at the regulated book.

No NBA betting data in Tennessee

So far, Tennessee has been one of the least transparent sports betting states in the nation. It does not release any betting numbers besides handle, operator revenue, and state taxes collected from that revenue. There is no information available for each of the four operators, nor information about action on individual sports, like other states divulge.

In other markets, basketball is the clear-cut no. 2 in terms of betting handle, trailing only football.

While the NBA is rolling on and the Grizzlies are obviously giving Tennesseans a local team to root for and bet on, March Madness next month is expected to be a major boon to the fledgling books as the Tennessee Volunteers are in the hunt for a top four seed in the 68-team field. The entire NCAA Tournament will be played in the state of Indiana.
